But there were a lot of good things about the 50s, too. It’s not an either/or thing. It’s totally possible to take the good things from the 50s, and from the 2020s, combine them to make a really good society. Economically we were better off and more secure in the 50s, we were a strong nation, and there was a lot more social cohesion. Crime was lower, alienation was lower, and television shows, while somewhat patriarchal, used that patriarchy to sit little Beaver Cleaver down and tell him about how he shouldn’t shoplift, or shouldn’t be rude to his teacher, or whatever the lesson of the week is.
