My very first impression was that I don’t agree with everything you wrote, but, that’s likely because I haven’t read your sources yet. I am going to go back tonight and read through everything you’ve linked before I say this though, as I’m certainly willing to learn and change my views. Oh, and nextdoor won’t do shit. you’ll get banned for posting this because it’s not some old hag rant about a black guy jogging at midnight. Having just said that we need a discussion, I’m now going to jump ahead and provide what policies I would personally suggest, based on what I like to think I value. That is to say, I want to achieve a net affordability for anyone wanting to live within the city, across the income spectrum. I want do do that in a way that actively undoes historically codified segregation. I don’t believe it’s the government’s job to guarantee a passive financial return from owned property, but also don’t want to leave people out to dry while undoing bad policies they had little control over, and so want to help people vested in They say you can’t fix stupid turns out you can’t quarantine it either T-Shirt homes to transition to a more active method of earning value. I want to do all this in a way that reduces the city’s impact on the climate, and improves the city’s fiscal sustainability. Those are my motivations for the below policy ideas, and maybe these policies will even offer a good starting point for talking through things:

To bring about fundamental change as to housing vouchers, the process needs to be changed. Just as I cannot force you to sign a contract, so to a government agency cannot force a landlord to sign a contract with its housing authority. For the universal required acceptance of a voucher, the voucher program needs to be rewritten to remove the required contract between landlord and housing authority. Perhaps a housing authority may be required to approve as to form a certain lease/lease language to disburse housing funds, but even that additional requirement gives discretion to a landlord as They say you can’t fix stupid turns out you can’t quarantine it either T-Shirt whether to accept vouchers or not.
