I love trip reports, thanks for sharing. It is true that beer is quite expensive. I usually just drank one with my meal or bought one at a combini for when I’m back at the hotel. Otherwise it was always sake and highballs. Same. I’ve been reading every single trip reports since I joined this sub. They’re all very thorough and helpful. I hadn’t heard of this at all, I’m intrigued! We’re doing Tokyo -> Kyoto and them Kyoto->Osaka and finally Osaka->Tokyo over 2 weeks, so that might be really helpful. Is that a hotel-specific service, The Great Sushi Wave Harajuku T-Shirt or general? What was the cost? Yamato Takkyubin (black cat logo) is a popular option. They work with hotels to do pick up and delivery, but if your hotel doesn’t do it, they usually have service offices that you can google.

They will pick up from conbinis as well. They won’t deliver to private residences or Airbnbs, though. I feel like to ship my suitcases to Kyoto and then back to Narita was roughly around 2000-2500 yen a suitcase each way. Additionally, if you need help, their website has English language help along with a mailbox that will answer questions in English. This was The Great Sushi Wave Harajuku T-Shirt helpful for me in verifying that the conbini I was about to take three heavy suitcases to did in fact ship. I did still have to call a fluent friend for help in telling the conbini attendant that this is what I wanted, but I guess failing that, Google Translate (or a simple list of phrases) would’ve probably done it too.

I can’t recommend it enough, but know that it takes at least one business day. In our case, we took an overnight bag to Hakone and our bags were at our Kyoto hotel when we checked in about 30 hours later. It is not a hotel specific service, my hotel just happened to have a dedicated counter for it. The company the Sheraton uses is called Sagawa, and I believe there are several companies that do this and many hotels partner with one of them.
