That really is a great part of the story. I’m really looking forward to taking a stab at a post about the choppers hopefully coming up in a few weeks. Looking forward to it. Seems like the job has gotten a lot easier with the advent of all in one mechanized cedar removal. Having surveyed numerous cedar thickets for an ecology project in college, I cant imagine how hard it would have been before. This might be my favorite post of yours yet! I always heard so many rumors growing up. I did a little digging a few years ago and Proud Daughter U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran T-Shirt disappointed to find that there weren’t flooded silos that UT used for scuba diving. Yes, I’m 90% sure those are the photos I was remembering which got posted here back in 2012 (according to the date on the imgur page). They are even better than I remember and too amazing for words! Were you the one who originally submitted them here, El Frig?

Thanks El Fridge. Yes that was the launch facility in Elroy with the control site just about 100-200 yards to the north and on the other side of the street. The Elroy control site has been built over and both sites down there don’t have much left even compared to the other Bee Cave Rd sites. Not even a rusty radar dish there. When this subreddit was in its infancy someone who had access to the Elroy launch site posted some amazing and high-quality pics of the place, including Proud Daughter U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran T-Shirt what looked like the interiors of a few of the remaining underground “bunkers” which were flooded with groundwater. If memory serves correctly the guy who posted it was there with a friend who owned it using the site as a shooting range. It’s such a shame the reddit search still sucks after all these years I wish I could find that old post.

Good to know the exact locations of the local SAM sites. Thanks for putting all that together Star. I bet these two were the last line of defense for all 118 San Antonio military installations. Don’t worry Alamo City, we’ve got your back with our array of fun-size tactical nukes! Also couldn’t help but notice that the military was okay with outdoor storage for the missiles when the maximum operating temperature was 130° F. Just keep them in the shade until you need them and hope for Proud Daughter U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran T-Shirt. The Ensign-Bickford road in Elroy was probably just happenstance. I assume they had the contract to develop both sites and build the facilities. It’s just there was already a road to the Travis site while one needed to be constructed for the Bastrop County site.
