Not sure why this hasn’t blown up more but holy shit, this is one of the best things I’ve ever read. Amazing work man, this must’ve taken you so long! also, when it comes to races, don’t be afraid to reflavor shamelessly. For example, in the arabian nights campaign I’m planning for right now,Kitsune Kabuki Mask Kami Tempel T-Shirt there are no dragonborn, tieflings or gnomes, but instead of locking my players out of those mechanical choices, I’ve reflavored then as genasi who’s mortal parent is dwarves, elves, and halflings, respectively. that way players don’t feel that they’re locked out of the crunch, but the world still makes sense. That’s a cool idea, and really serves to make my point. (I’m not gonna use it, but that doesn’t make it a bad idea. I’m just emphasizing Genasi as being culturally important in my campain, and Halflings are one of my main races.)

Don’t kitsune change shape? How bout reflavoring changelings as kitsune? Actually all the ebberon races would be kind of useful. Shifters as oni or something. War forged as….. Cursed…. Armor… People? Maybe not war forged. There is an Oriental Adventures book for previous editions, 2e and 3e for sure. It might be easier to find an old copy and reflavor it to fit 5e. I’d think 2e would be a little easier to reskin to 5e. . I’ve seen Oriental Adventures before, Kitsune Kabuki Mask Kami Tempel T-Shirt I’ve just found that converting content seems to be more of a pain than actually homebrewing things. It might give me some good ideas for fluff though. Know any places where I can get it for cheap? Probably eBay is your best bet. You probably wouldn’t need to mechanically convert much. It would be a great setting and flavor resource.

Another poster mentioned Oriental Adventures from previous editions, but I’d like to recommend looking at the 3rd Edition books that converted the Legend of the Five Rings setting. Legend of the Five Rings nails Japanese culture and themes, while being a good base for a more Chiense base. Again, merely for inspiration, but I honestly feel converting either OA or L5R would be very simple to do with 5E rules. You could just flavor the races as humans from different regions. Make the physical characteristics not as obvious. Maybe dwarves and halflings and gnomes are on the shorter end of the height scale, but still human sized.
