I like to think she just left show business and is living a quiet life under a different name, but having unclaimed money is a little ominous. It could be an extremely minuscule amount. She hasn’t put out new music to earn royalties on and my guess is that these are residuals from The Silence of the Lambs soundtrack. I doubt people are rushing out to buy I’m an October Woman I was Born in with My Heart On My Sleeve T-Shirt album if it’s even still in print. It was used in and appeared in trailers for Grand Theft Auto IV, and in the spring/summer 2016 Gucci campaign video. That and that she probably never updated her information to get the check. Although this reminds me of Emo Phillips showing a residual check from UHF for like $2.41 in an interview. “It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”

You’d be surprised. With digital sales and licensing and things it could still be in the tens of thousands depending. Yeah, my boyfriend was telling me today that Kay Hanley from Letters to Cleo was able to buy two houses with the money she made from the Josie and Pussycats soundtrack and that movie was a total bomb. I heard a story about the guy I’m an October Woman I was Born in with My Heart On My Sleeve T-Shirt made the original film “M.A.S.H” which led to the tv series. He wanted a song with “stupid lyrics” to use as a theme for the film. He got his 14 year old son to come up with a song. He did and called it “Suicide is Painless”. When they turned the film into a tv show, they used the “stupid” song as the opening for the entire series.

This guy could not believe his son made more money for writing that stupid song than he did creating the film. I think it was Robert Altman. He told his son to write the dumbest lyrics he could think of, hence “suicide is painless, it brings on many changes” which sounds kind of good but makes no sense if you think for a moment. Yep, it was Robert Altman’s son. I did realize he would still make money on the theme song since it didn’t use his lyrics, but I guess he and the guy who wrote the music were credited as co-writers. Honestly I think that this is the most obvious answer. Based off of I’m an October Woman I was Born in with My Heart On My Sleeve T-Shirt Wikipedia page it would appear she was involved in a certain NYC arts scene and it’s likely that with her waning notoriety she just faded back into obscurity.
