I, too, remember what I called “The Room Full of Asses”. This was at 47th Replacement, or Repple Depple in Army English, in Fort Leonard Wood, Home of The Engineers. Of course our Corps would make it’s home in Missouri. I got there in January of ’00. It was cold. We’d started our in-processing. Sitting on hard plastic chairs in our new PT uniforms with huge packets of paperwork. Anyway…we were herded into a large, antiseptic room with stainless steel counters all the way around the perimeter, I’m A Grumpy Old Army Veteran Soldiers Military T-Shirt crammed in nut to but, and told to face the outer wall. We were then told to pull our pants down, place our hands palms down on the counter in front of us, and keep our eyes and heads oriented to our twelve o’clock.

I couldn’t help but sneak a glance over my shoulder, and as terrified as I was at this machine I’d got myself caught up in, I couldn’t help but think it was one of the funniest, most ridiculous things I’d ever see. Wall to wall dude asses. Black and white and brown and red, skinny and rolly-polly fatbodies, old and young, hairy and smooth. I had to stifle a laugh. And then one of the medics stabbed me in the butt-cheek, they do shots like you’d innoculate live-stock (and I’m kinda surprised they I’m A Grumpy Old Army Veteran Soldiers Military T-Shirt didn’t brand us while they were at it), and shot a burning golf ball into my fourth point-of-contact. I thought it hurt, but I’d yet to experience the Anthrax series. I’m still a bit vague about how they were able to change your job!

I thought at first you were actually in the signals, which made sense for me, I think there’s something about the Signals that makes them want to be more Infantry than the Infantry. Or rather as a Corps they want to be their version of what they think an infantry soldier is. The problem is when you get take a very technical job, but then up the fitness and military skills standards to the point where you can’t get the guy who’s ideal for the job though the course. Instead you get some meathead that can barely put a battery on charge. I’m A Grumpy Old Army Veteran Soldiers Military T-Shirt This.
