Isn’t this simply a no true Scotsman discussion? An example of cancel culture was Kevin Spacey who sexually assaulted a boy. Or Harvey Weinstein who sexually assaulted women. These people were cancelled. In you examples in the comments, you describe people who were held accountable to past public information. If You Don’t Like Trump Then You Probably Won’t Like Me And I’m Ok With That America Flag Shirt I would say some people aren’t cancelled and simply let go for inappropriate behaviour, I think you would likely suggest they have been cancelled (maybe not). So isn’t this view based around, you think cancel culture is fine but only when it’s done correctly. Inversely, cancel culture is wrong when it’s used incorrectly? I think everyone would agree with that view.

Do you believe my above summary of your view is correct? If not, how would you summarize it. If it is a correct summary, why would we want your view changed? First off let me state I think racism, sexism, homophobia, and all the other stuff in that category is bad and that it does not excuse a person from If You Don’t Like Trump Then You Probably Won’t Like Me And I’m Ok With That America Flag Shirt they said and/or did in the past. OK, so… it really sounds like you agree with cancel culture; you just disagree about where the line should be. So I’m already confused: what exactly are you against? Instead of making up examples, could you just explain what you think is bad? I’m against the idea of cancelling someone and ignoring the problem. That’s what cancel culture is. I decided to look at twitter for the first time in a couple weeks and my feed was filled with random people complaining about what people did ten years ago

To elaborate on how cancel culture ignores the issue. Most of the time at least from what I’ve personally seen is no one gets a chance to defend themself because no one will listen to them. Also if anyone tries to help change their mind they will be viewed as racist or sexist or whatever it was because they are talking with the person. I have personally seen this happen at school and it was disgusting mean, yes, if you DEFINE cancel culture as not fixing problems, I’m against it! But I don’t understand why you’re defining it that way. If You Don’t Like Trump Then You Probably Won’t Like Me And I’m Ok With That America Flag Shirt, please stop listing examples. Listing examples (real or fake) CAN help understanding, but here it’s obscuring the ambiguity of your view. I need to know the DEFINITION of what you’re against, not a bunch of examples of it.
